Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Louis Seade, who serves patients in Texas.

Dr. Seade has been a practicing orthopedic surgeon for more than 20 years. At Orthopedic Specialists of Austin, he provides high-quality, minimally invasive shoulder surgery that results in a quick recovery.

As one of the few surgeons nationwide to perform arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, he focuses on arthroscopic techniques and adult reconstructive surgery for maximum comfort and easier rehabilitation.

It is the mission of Dr. Seade and all the doctors at Orthopedic Specialists of Austin to use the latest in surgical and non-surgical techniques to provide the least-invasive treatment possible along with effective treatment and a rapid recovery.

Using his experience and expertise to teach other orthopedic surgeons about advancements in shoulder surgery and new technology, Dr. Seade currently teaches other orthopedic surgeons the complex details of arthroscopic shoulder repairs. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch. 

Advising a company headquartered in London on a new arthroscopic rotator cuff anchoring device, he does new product testing for this device in their lab located in Austin. Dr. Seade is also a national instructor for total shoulder prosthesis implants and continues to educate other orthopedic surgeons on new techniques and advancements in arthroscopic surgery. 

Practicing medicine in Texas, he is affiliated with the Hospital at Westlake Medical Center, St. David’s Medical Center, and Ascension Seton Medical Center.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Seade received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. During his time in college, he ran track and was an Academic All-American. He then went on to earn his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1993. 

Furthering his education, he performed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1994 and 1998, respectively. He then completed his fellowship in shoulder & elbow orthopedic surgery at California Pacific Medical Center in 1999, where he worked under the past president of The Shoulder and Elbow Society, Dr. Tom Norris, and under nationally-acclaimed hand and elbow surgeon, Dr. Relton McCarroll.

Keeping up-to-date on the latest orthopedic advancements, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

A leader, Dr. Seader was chairman of the Texas Orthopedic Association (TOA) Annual Meeting for three years. He also served as chairperson for medical education for the TOA and was chosen the organization’s president in 2011.

Before becoming one of the OSA orthopedic surgeons in Austin, Dr. Seade was a partner at Santa Fe Orthopedic Associates where he was the sports medicine physician for Santa Fe Ski Patrol and Ski School. He was also the chief of orthopedics at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

A Vitals Preferred Provider, Dr. Seader has also been the recipient of a Patient’s Choice Award (2014, 2013, 2012, 2011) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016).

Having spent 13 years living in Mexico, he is fluent in Spanish and English. This allows him to better support all of his current and future patients within the Austin community. 

Maintaining an active lifestyle, he enjoys kayaking, water skiing, mountain biking, and coaching soccer.
