Dr. Smith served as the Director of the Allergy and Immunology Residency Training Program at Emory University School of Medicine. He held positions on the Editorial Boards of the primary journals of the allergy society. Dr. Smith has been recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America since 1994, and starting from 2003 he has consistently been named a Texas Super Doctor. He was recognized as a Top Doc in 2023. He participates as a member of the Expert Panel for Allergy for the Texas Medical Board. He formerly was Professor of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and he was Director of the Allergy and Immunology Residency Training Program at Emory University School of Medicine. He currently is in a private single specialty medical group. He also is Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine and Peditrics at Texas A&M Health Science Center. Dr. Smith and his wife are proud parents of three children, all of whom reside in Austin. He considers it a great blessing to have his family close by in the same city. In his spare time, he is Health Supervisor (CMO) and serves on the Enterprise Risk Management Committee of the Capital Area Council Boy Scouts of America. Outside of his professional and community engagements, he pursues his passion for poetry and photography and is a Master Dive. Dr. Smith firmly believes that patients do not possess diseases; rather, diseases affect patients. Consequently, he places the utmost importance on the well-being of his patients. He adheres to an approach known as evidence-based medicine, which involves integrating the latest scientific knowledge from the literature into his patient care. This ensures that the most effective practices are implemented and offered to his patients. Driven by the conviction that decisions and policies should be grounded in evidence, he emphasizes the need to rely on scientific findings rather than solely on the beliefs of practitioners, experts, or administrators.
