Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Alexander Shapsis, who serves patients in Brooklyn, New York.

A caring and diligent gastroenterologist, Dr. Shapsis is the President of Atlantic Gastroenterology, a state-of-the-art clinic located in the New York area. The practice specializes in all aspects of gastroenterology, hepato-billiary diseases, and hepatology. In July of 2007, they opened their doors for the first time and began serving patients in Brooklyn and the greater New York area. Since then, they have maintained the highest standards in patient care and advanced medicine.

With a broad educational background, he attended the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he earned his medical degree, before completing his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center and Mount Sinai Medical Center. He also holds a bachelor’s degree with a major in biochemistry and a double minor in math and philosophy from New York University.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
