  • What's the recovery length of a tooth extraction?

Good afternoon, Healing time varies for each individual. If you are healthy and do not have systemic diseases you will be healed and back to normal activity within 3-4days. If you are unhealthy or have slower healing time it could take up to 14days. The full time for an extraction site to completely heal though is 4-6months for the bone to completely remodel and fill in the space. You should be back to normal though while that is all occurring. • How long does it take to get braces?

Hello! That's exciting news. The process of having braces put on normally takes about an hour, each case is different though. The actual correction of misaligned teeth through braces can take anywhere from 6months to 3years depending on your specific case type. Good luck! Dr. Reid READ MORE

  • How is dental anesthesia different?

Hello! That's a perfect question to ask. Dental anesthesia is very different from general. We call it I.V. sedation or twilight sedation because you are still able to breath completely on your own. Meaning, you are not intubated and your respiratory rate should remain stable throughout the procedure. You are still given local anesthesia to block the nerves that innervate the specific tooth being worked on but you will have no memory of the procedure. Hope all goes well. Dr. Reid READ MORE

  • How long do people typically wear braces?

Hello! On average orthodontic treatment is needed for 12-18months to achieve the goals of correcting misaligned teeth however each case is different. Some cases are 6months where others are 3 years. If you are not one of the extreme cases, more than likely you will be in treatment for a year. Dr. Reid READ MORE

  • How do I stop grinding my teeth when sleeping?

Good afternoon, That sounds terrible for you and your wife both. Grinding your teeth can be multifactoral. We need to determine first why you are grinding your teeth and then from there appliances and treatment can be made to correct the problem. Patients grind their teeth because of misaligned teeth, stress, anxiety and even sleep apnea. Once a diagnosis is made either a patient can do orthodontic treatment to correct the position of the teeth or have an occlusal guard fabricated or we treat the patient for sleep apnea. Definitely get in to be evaluated by a dentist so you and your wife both can get a good nights rest. Dr. Reid READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have pain after a root canal?

Hello, I hope the pain has subsided for you now, however, the simple answer is yes it is very normal. The pain should not be excruciating but yes you will definitely feel discomfort. Your tooth had surgery and the nerve was removed, I'd be sore too. These things normally heal well though. If pain still persists after a week without any sign of letting up I would make a follow up appointment. Happy healing! Dr. Reid READ MORE

  • What is gums disease?

Hello, First off I love that you are seeking out answers on behalf of your grandfather! We have to take care of family :) Gum disease can be broken down into two categories: Gingivitis and Periodontitis. 1. Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth. This is normally reversible with treatment and removal of all aggravating debris along with correction of at home care, this normally means more flossing. 2. Periodontitis is when gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) is left untreated for some time and starts to affect and infect the bone and gum tissue surrounding the teeth. This is treatable, however, if left untreated it will lead to tooth loss and has been linked to diabetes and heart disease. If either of these are caught early the long term prognosis for a patient can be very manageable and maintainable. Most people do not know they have either of these diseases until it is sometimes too late. And just so you understand the way we diagnosis these diseases is by visual inspection, x-rays and perio chart. Good luck and thank you for caring for your grandfather. Dr. Reid READ MORE
