I am a Hematologist and Medical Oncologist practicing in Central Jersey area for almost 2 decades. I am a part of a large private practice, Regional Cancer Care Asdociates (RCCA) in New Jersey. I specialize in the treatment of all types of cancers and blood disorders. I work out of RCCA Somerville, Edison and Hamilton offices. I am currently the Director of Medical Oncology services at RWJBH Cancer Center at Hamilton and Oncology Section Chief at RWJBH Hamilton and Meridian JFK Medical Center. I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Professional Advisory Board–Cancer Support Community of Central Jersey. What is the course of treatment for leukemia?
Leukemia are of different kinds and they can be acute or chronic. Acute leukemia usually need treatment with chemotherapy right away to achieve remission. My hemoglobin level Is very low since I had chemotherapy. What should I do?
Hemoglobin should improve a few months after completion of chemotherapy, if not normal, it should be close to normal. You should discuss with your oncologist to find out any additional causes of anemia especially possibility of damage to bone marrow. READ MORE

Is leukemia curable?
Acute leukemia’s have the potential of cure. Chronic leukemia in general has very effective therapies which can cure or place patient’s in long term remissions. However, at times leukemia’s can be refractory to treatment and fatal. READ MORE
Can continuous anemia be a sign of blood cancer?
Anemia can be a sign of blood cancer. However, there are many other causes of anemia which are in general fixable. READ MORE
Can blood cancer ever be treated?

I keep passing blood in my stools. While doctors have ruled out anything serious, I am worried.
Blood in stools can have different reasons. It can be from hemorrhoids, diverticulosis or bleeding small vessels called AVM or angiodysplasia. Your GI doctors should be able to help you. These conditions are in general not dangerous but may need iron supplementation to keep hemoglobin normal. READ MORE
