About

I have been been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 18 years. I have been Supervising other counselors for 15 years. I have helped individuals resolve a wide range of internal conflicts and emotional issues. I am a firm believer that many emotional problems are interrelated. When personal issues are addressed in the  appropriate manner, other areas of a person's life will begin to improve as well. During the counseling process, I focus more on the 'here and now' and preparing for the future. After knowing the importance of where one has been, I believe in moving on and taking proactive steps toward a better tomorrow. I use a wide range of theoretical approaches and techniques to best meet the needs of the individual. I would be honored if you allowed me to help you through your current struggles and launch you toward a better tomorrow. Contact me or schedule a session, so we can begin the restoration process.

  • What is the best psychological treatment for schizophrenia?

Even though medication is the first line of defense with treating schizophrenia, cognitive behavior therapy in the short term can help subside some of the extreme thought patterns. That being said, cognitive trauma realignment is the focus that I use when assisting individuals with schizophrenia. READ MORE

  • What is the treatment for schizophrenia?

There is no single most effective treatment for schizophrenia. Skills training on how to redirect undesirable thoughts need to be incorporated to help stabilize the emotional state of the individual. There are many medications that help with stabilization as well. However, it is my the professional opinion that most people suffering from schizophrenia have developed their irrational thoughts as a defense mechanism to help protect themselves from being overwhelmed by the reality of a traumatic event that has happened. • Can a marriage survive without counseling?

All things are possible. But, if a marriage can get some help along the way, I would recommend that. The key, rather you go to counseling or not, is for each party to be as open and honest as they possibly can. Many times it is much easier for a third party to be asking the tough questions that are necessary for opening the classical conversations that need to be addressed. READ MORE

  • What is the treatment for aggressive behavior?

This is not one particular treatment that can be used for all cases. The therapist will explore the specifics of the behavior and what triggers the unwanted responses. READ MORE

  • What doctor should I see for panic attacks?

If you asked several professionals, you would probably get various points of view. Even though psychiatrists would be a solution for short medication management, for lasting results one should seek a therapist that has a lot of experience in dealing with anxiety and phobias. READ MORE

  • Does cognitive-behavioral therapy help with aggression?

Cognitive Behavior therapy is one of the most effective forms of therapy for aggression. However, individual cases need to be evaluated in order to implement an appropriate plan. Other forms of therapy should be implemented as well. Seek professional guidance in order to develop an appropriate plan for your daughter. READ MORE

  • Is it worth going to couples counseling?

Couples Counseling can be a very effective means of helping couples get unstuck with their communication breakdown. Many times couples get caught up in a conflict and they individually lose their objectivity. Having a professional who has experience in couples conflict management can be extremely helpful when things have gotten out of control. Not all situations require seeking additional help. However, when couples are at an impasse, a neutral third party can be exactly what a couple needs to see the conflict more clearly. READ MORE

  • Should I go to therapy for anxiety?

Anxiety is not something that should be ignored. Anxiety is generally an manifestation of an unresolved inner conflict. Conflicts many times are based on some type of fear that needs to be explored and analyzed. It is when anxiety begins to affect other areas of one's life that is is recommended that one seek some additional guidance. Some situational anxieties can be resolved rather quickly and no additional follow up is needed. However, when anxiety is not kept in check, it can grow into life-long patterns of behavior which make it much more difficult to overcome. I would recommend at least speaking to an anxiety expert in order to get a more hands on evaluation. READ MORE

  • What is the best treatment for OCD?

Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) has been the most effective Treatment for OCD for quite some time. However, a more specific CBT called Exposure and Response Prevention has become more popular recently and has demonstrated strong evidence in it's effectiveness. However, a more general therapeutic approach to one's overall mental health can be equally important in minimizing the effects of OCD tendencies in the long run. OCD behaviors can many times be a means of bringing order to one's otherwise chaotic environment. Therefore, it is important to look at your friend's overall mental well being and not overly focus on the behaviors themselves. READ MORE

  • Is therapy better than antidepressants for depression?

Individuals can suffer from medical conditions and chemical imbalances which cause emotional instabilities like depression, but I am convinced a person's emotional well-being is more heavily influenced by what a person thinks about. Many times, it is a person's depressive thoughts that lead them into a condition of being depressed. Every human being has value and purpose, but many times our own learned thought patterns prevent us from seeing ourselves objectively. It is these long-term distorted core beliefs about ourselves that create an environment in which depressive thoughts thrive. Learning to stop these invasive thoughts and developing new proactive thought arrangements is much more effective in the long run that being placed on antidepressants. Antidepressants have their place in regards to helping people with their mental health, but it should not be the first line of defense when dealing with depression. Each individual must work along with their medical support team to determine the best course of action. READ MORE
