  • How do I Help my Grandma Stop Falling?

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I get asked this question a lot. Just insert any pronoun that you prefer, i.e. my Dad, my Mom, my Aunt, my Grandpa, and so on. After all, falls, repeated falls, are a reality for literally one-quarter of the population in the USA who are older than 65 years! The...

  • Is physical therapy advisable for sciatica pain?

Good afternoon, Yes, absolutely seek physical therapy for this issue. PT commonly works with individuals with low back pain and sciatica. You should also look into Dean Volk and his YouTube videos. He is the sciatica guru. Best of luck! READ MORE

  • Is physical therapy recommended for neck pain?

Hey there, That's a very common issue that physical therapy could absolutely help you with. PT could relieve symptoms in just a single visit and the therapist should be able to provide you with tools to use to prevent in the future or to self treat if that stiffness comes back. READ MORE

  • Can physical therapy help back pain?

Physical therapy has been proven to be more effective and provide quicker relief than any surgery, medication, or injections. So that's a resounding YES from me. READ MORE

  • Can physical therapy help my leg pain?

Hey there, I'd say yes, because a PT can also help to determine proper dosing of exercise based on your current fitness level and also can make recommendations on how to progress. READ MORE

  • Can physiotherapy help me with my frozen shoulder?

Hey there! Absolutely physical therapy will be able to help you with Frozen shoulder. In most states you don't need a referral to see a PT directly. I wish you the best in getting help with this issue. READ MORE

  • What can I do to counter the numbness in my neck and shoulders?

Hey there, This is not the easiest to answer without an in person evaluation, but I would recommend shoulder rolls, wall angels, and possibly a doorway stretch for the pectoralis muscles. It could be neck related in origin or it could be the shoulders or both. These exercises should help some and should have examples available on YouTube. Hope this helps or at least starts you in the right direction. READ MORE

  • What does this mean?

Hey there! Musculoskeletal refers to the muscles and bones. So what your physician wrote means that he/she was assessing or maybe recommending treatment for your muscles and/or bones. For example if you sprain an ankle, or strain your back, get neck pain, etc that is part of the musculoskeletal system. Hope that helps! -DMH READ MORE

  • Should I see a doctor about this?

This looks like a severe ankle sprain from the image you provided. The bruising indicates you did quite some damage there! It could be a fracture of the foot/ankle so I would recommend getting that checked out before putting any weight on it. READ MORE

  • Can physical therapy help disc hernia?

Yes! I don't know how long it has been since the herniation happened, but typically the earlier you get PT after a disc injury the better and quicker your recovery will be. PT will not "fix" the herniation (you can't put the jelly back inside of a jelly donut once you squeeze it out haha), but between the manual therapy techniques for spine mobility and pain control, education on prevention and positioning, core stabilization exercises, and nerve glides to help the spinal cord and nerves in the back to continue to stay flexible, PT is absolutely crucial in this case. I say find the PT in your area that is the BEST for back pain issues and go for it! READ MORE
