About

Dr. Zack Bein is a psychologist in the Dan Brown/David Elliott lineage of clinicians who believe strongly in the “3 pillar” approach to healing relational and attachment difficulty in adults. This method, termed Integrative Attachment Therapy (IAT), involves the use of co-created secure imagery with Ideal Parent Figures (IPF).  He also has clinical experience with substance abuse/dependence, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, impulse-control disorders, psychotic disorders, and several personality disorders. His doctoral research was deverloping a mindfulness treatment for post-combat veterans with addiction and posttraumatic symptoms.  At the University of California, Berkeley, Zack worked in the schizophrenia lab, examining the relationship between memory, emotions, and negative symptoms in patients with schizophrenia.

  • Professional PresentationsThe 2023 Changes in the Three Pillar Model Initially Developed by Brown & Elliott, 2016.Many things are evolving in the field right now. One of those things, for example, is that the original 3rd pillar, enhancing collaborative abilities, will now be the 1st pillar, which used to be Remapping the Internal Working Model using Ideal Parent Figures (IPF). Collaboration is going to be the new 1st pillar because of the decades of research that shows that regardless of the intervention, the factor that accounts for the most variance in change is the quality of the relationship between the patient and the therapist. We are not here to teach a technique. This is a psychotherapeutic model and tool, and should be treated as such.Mindfulness Treatments for the Addiction Process2019 Betty Ford West Los AngelesPresented to clinical staff and patientsAdult Attachment Theory Assessment and Treatment2018 Chicago School of Professional Psychology Los AngelesPresented to clinical staff and studentsA Pilot Study of an 8-Week Mindfulness-Based Treatment for Veterans with PTSD and Substance Abuse2014 Alliant International University Los Angeles Presented to Clinical Staff
