Get to know Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr. Rebecca M. Hedrick, who serves patients in Los Angeles, California.

Recognized as a Super Doctor by Southern California Rising Stars, Dr. Hedrick is a board certified psychiatrist based in Los Angeles, California. She holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor and the Clinical Chief in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Simultaneously, she serves as the Director for Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai,serving patients who are admitted throughout the medical hospital who suffer from comorbid psychiatric issues.  She offers direct patient care for consultation liaison and emergency psychiatry. This includes evaluations and follow-up care for patients of all ages in the emergency room and those admitted to the 886-bed Level I Trauma Center Hospital and multi-specialty academic health science center. She provides recommendations for medical workup, psychotropic medications, and provides psychotherapy in various modalities to her patients. Her passion is helping patients with complex medical and psychiatric issues understand how the mind and body each impact the other, with the use of mindfulness practice to help her patients, their families and treating medical staff, and herself to promote wellness and resiliency. Although she does not have an outpatient practice and only sees patients during their admission to the medical hospital, Dr. Hedrick does have a half day clinic in which she sees children and adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease suffering from mental health issues, and conducts pre-transplant psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents. She provides clinical supervision and didactics to UCLA Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellows, residents in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Supportive Care Medicine, and Podiatry, medical students, and psychiatric nurse practitioner students. Graduating with her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Spanish and Psychiatry from Vanderbilt University in 1997, Dr. Hedrick went on to earn her Medical Degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2002.

Furthering her training, she completed  both her General Psychiatry Residency and Child\ and Adolescent Fellowship at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in 2006 and 2008, respectively. 

With an unwavering commitment to her specialty, the doctor is board certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.

Dr. Hedrick attributes her success to courage and compassion fueled by being raised by a loving family and being happily married for nearly 30 years. An interesting fact about her is that she provided consultation to actors for their roles in the Netflix Original Series, 13 Reasons Why. Dr. Hedrick was featured in the documentary 13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons, Seasons 1-3, in which the cast, producers and mental health professionals discuss scenes dealing with difficult issues, including bullying, depression, and sexual assault.
