Furthermore, Dr. Monsivais served on active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and was formerly affiliated with the Plastic Surgery program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. Philanthropic initiatives include his work with Palestinian Children’s Fund, which brings doctors to international locations such as Ethiopia, Honduras, Palestinian Camps, Lebanon, West Bank, and Eastern Europe. Having been practicing in El Paso since 1983, Dr. Monsivais is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who is considered one of the leading experts in his field. 

Under his direction, The Hand and Microsurgery Center of El Paso provides comprehensive surgical and non-surgical management for a wide variety of disorders. These include brachial plexus injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, complex pain syndromes, congenital hand abnormalities, Dupuyren’s contracture, hand fractures, hand contractures, microsurgical reconstruction, nerve injuries and peripheral nerve pain, replantation surgery, syndactyly, trigger fingers, as well as wrist pain and injuries. Alongside his clinical role and his affiliation with multiple hospitals in the area, Dr. Monsivais holds a Clinical Professor position with Texas Tech University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation.

After earning his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, he relocated to the United States to complete his fellowship in hand/reconstructive microsurgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina and his fellowship in hand surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then served on active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and was formerly affiliated with the Plastic Surgery Program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in both general surgery and hand surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Additionally, Dr. Monsivais is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Society of Actuaries, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the American Society for Peripheral Nerve, and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. 

Attributing his success to hard work and good mentorship, he frequently presents his research both nationally and internationally, and has authored over 56 scholarly publications. 

His global health service activities include volunteer work at several international locations, including Ethiopia, Honduras, Moldova, and with the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund in Lebanon and West Bank, Palestine. What’s more, he volunteered in Ukraine and Iraq for 18 months, and helped serve citizens in Eastern Europe in former Soviet Republics after the fall of the Republic.
