John Belushi

Legendary comedic actor John Belushi has been immortalized by his iconic performances on Saturday Night Live and in the classic films Animal House and The Blues Brothers. Sadly, Belushi is also remembered for dying of a drug overdose at the young age of 33.

In the years leading up to his untimely death, Belushi wrestled with substance abuse and mental health issues. Substance abuse and mental illness often go hand-in-hand. Some people with anxiety and depression use alcohol and drugs to self-medicate, but their substance abuse problems end up making their anxiety and depression even worse, creating a truly vicious cycle.

Belushi’s friend and colleague, Robin Williams, was with him the night before his death. Decades later, Williams met his own tragic fate, committing suicide after a long battle with depression. Sadly, neither of these comedic geniuses were able to conquer their demons, and the world just isn’t the same without them.
