The Swank Diet for Multiple Sclerosis

Is there any MS research behind the diet?

Is there any MS research behind the diet?

There is very limited evidence that the Swank Diet is effective in helping with MS. During his research Dr. Swank looked at 144 people with MS over the span of 34 years who consumed less than 20g of fat per day. At the end of this study he concluded that the progression of MS for this group of people was slowed and they were less likely to die. This conclusion was based on the observation that at the end of the 34 years, the people who kept to the diet experienced minimal progression of the disease compared with those who did not follow the diet. Unfortunately the study that Dr. Swank conducted did not include a control group or strict inclusion criteria, and also had a high drop out rate. More recently a similar diet was studied.
