Most pain relieving ear drops for children have been taken off the market so we use oral Ibuprofen or Tyleno until the medication kicks in. It is prudent to keep your child out of the pool for about 4-7 days if it is indeed an external ear infection. Middle ear infections require oral antibiotics if severe enough to be treated. Saline rinses and nasal decongestants are alternatives in older children.
Running nose may also be due to environmental allergies which may include dust mites in mattresses and pillows and animal dander. You may consider covering the mattress and pillow with vinyl covers. Presence of sneezing, itchy nose or eyes or watery eyes will lend support to an allergic cause. Consult your physician if any of these symptoms are present with the
running nose.
