Dear Members and Friends of The Lapidus Clinic,
Over the last few years, we have been hearing more and more about the beneficial effects of CBD products. Radio, TV, roadside billboards are trying to sell us everything from chewable gummy bears and CBD water to CBD wine. CBD is flooding the market and everyone is now wanting to experience it. Recently, I have started to ask my patients if they use any cannabis or hemp products. About 99% answered yes to that question.
I knew of the medical benefits of some synthetic cannabinoids such as Marinol for years. CBD massage oil and some tinctures were available for my patients in pain for the last 2 years. I still was confused and overwhelmed with all advertisements and decided to take a certification course through my Academy of Anti-aging and Regenerative Medicine where I am an active Fellow. That is what prompted The Lapidus Clinic to collaborate with specific companies and to start an educational series of lectures for the community at our Destination Clinic partner Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa.
It is truly the Wild Wild West out there. Marijuana edible products and all types of CBD products are made locally, regionally, and at sophisticated pharmaceutical facilities across the country. I suggest all of us should do our homework and learn about what we consume or rub on our skin. In the case of CBD and THC products, it is sometimes a faster way of bringing it into our body then swallowing or eating a cookie or gummy. Here are some recommended questions you should ask your doctor, your manufacturer and farmer:
- Where is the hemp coming from?
- Is it free of pesticides like Round Up (Glyphosate a potential carcinogen) or other fillers or carrier solutions?
- How was the quality of the product checked and by whom?
- How was it stored?
- Does it interact with your diet, supplements or prescription medications?
- What does it do to your brain and body?
- If it did not work for you, do you know why?
Even after the very comprehensive course I took at A4M, I had to rely on experts in the clinical, farming, and pharmacology fields to answer all these questions.
