Yes, a rib can pop back into place. Many times they lose their normal articulation of movement when someone bends over awkwardly, sneezes or coughs multiple times. Your ribs have two motions; a caliper style movement opening outward from the front and a bucket handle movement up and down. Sometimes when ribs dislocated or "subluxate", they can re-occur more frequently and require manual intervention.

the answer to this question depends on several factors:
a.) Is there an injury and/or trauma to the shoulder joint?
b.) Is there injury to the rotator cuff musculature itself?
c.) how long has the problem been there?
These 3 components usually help me determine the length of time it takes for a shoulder problem to resolve. If only musculature is affected, it is usually quicker. If there is injury to an of the shoulder joints ( this includes the glenohumeral joint, A/C joint and the S/C jt.) then the time can be longer. If posture is poor, it will take longer. If the problem has been getting worse over several months and years even, then it is probable that several treatments will be required.

Without actually seeing you and what your history is, I suggest people come to see me a couple of times in the first week. After that, they have been given a series of stretches and exercises to help manage and improve the pain on their own. After the pain and/or stiffness subsides to the point that you are satisfied, I would recommend you return when you need to. Let your body tell you when it is time. Some patients prefer to set up standing appointments several weeks in advance, others simply call when they need us.
