Liposuction is the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States, with over hundreds of thousands of procedures completed every year. Whether you are overweight, or just want to get rid of that stubborn problem area, liposuction is a great option.
But one of the most common questions patients have is: “Will my fat come back after my treatment?” There are several different liposuction methods in practice; however, all of them have the same goal: to permanently remove fat from a localized part of your body.
Liposuction is a great way to contour the body and help you where diet and exercise can’t. Certain areas of fat on our body no matter how much we work out tend to stick around; liposuction instantaneously removes that fat and has lasting results if you maintain your weight and healthy lifestyle. Your post-surgery results will be permanent should you not go on to gain a significant amount of weight.
I use liposuction as a way to contour various parts of the body. The abdomen, hips, arms and legs can instantly lose inches, getting rid of that layer of fat and give you the hourglass shape you never thought was possible. The recovery time is minimal and most patients resume work and regular activities after a couple of days.
After their procedure, I always recommend my patients to make healthy lifestyle changes. Not only is it good for their overall health, they will maintain their results for the long-term. Some of the things I recommend patients to do post-lipo are:
- Follow every recovery instruction you’re given, especially wearing the compression garment provided.
- Have a diet that consists of mainly protein and healthy carbohydrates. Also, make sure to watch those calories. There are a ton of apps on your phone that’ll help you keep track.
- Make sure to stay hydrated with water and avoid sugary drinks.
- Have several small meals throughout your day instead of 3 big ones. I typically recommend my patients to have six.
- And, finally, be active and exercise moderately.
So the point is... liposuction does provide permanent results and fat loss as long as you commit to doing your part!
