If the gum infection is just gingivitis, then I recommend a cleaning with laser treatment and mouthwash antibiotics with excellent home care. If the gum infection is severe, sometimes surgical intervention is necessary with a Periodontist.

However, if a tooth is infected, there are major health ramifications if a dental infection is not taken care of including stroke and heart attacks. If you have a dental infection inside the tooth, there is only 2 ways to resolve the infection, a root canal or an extraction. So in my professional opinion, I would rather have a root canal to stop infection.

A good healthy bridge can last someone the rest of their life. My mom Have a 45 year old bridge in her mouth that has never caused a problem. Zirconia is a very strong material but if you’re a heavy biter, it can cause it to break. However, if the bridge is done correctly and the patient takes care of the bridge, the material doesn’t matter as much.
