What is the most important test for kidney function?
The best test is: RENAL FUNCTION PANEL (RFP). But basic metabolic panel (BMP and comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) will also give you kidney function numbers as well.

Here is why RFP is my favorite.
It gives you BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and serum creatinine. (so do BMP andCMP)
It gives you serum albumin, a measure of nutritional status (CMP does aswell but not BMP)
It gives you a serum phosphorus level. (NEITHER BMP nor CMP will give youthis.)
