Memory can be quite a complex thing. I would ask a number of important questions:
-if you have family members who have similar issues?
-did you have a trauma earlier in life that may have caused your memory issues?
-have you ever had improvement in your memory; has it ever become worse?
There are a number of reasons why some one can have problems with their memory, and it is not always easy to figure out what the true deficit is. As a Neurosurgeon (very different from a Neurologist), I have quite a few patients with memory problems. I have just a few recommendations for them to follow:
-first, talk to your family doctor. If you do not have one, get one. You will most likely be referred to a Neurologist for your memory issues.
-second, you must engage in mentally stimulating activities, like reading books or doing cross-words. In the face of dyslexia, read in a well lit area, and take your time.
-third, get on the NIH web site and research the MIND Diet. In order to have a properly functioning brain, you need to have good nutrition, and this diet is great for the human brain.
-last, try buying a simple memory book. You will find some of the descriptions and explanations quite insightful.
I hope you find this helpful. Take Care.
