Well let's not use words like 'clean' to describe any one here. But it would be difficult to put a number on that. lf the man was known to be positive for Herpes and was actively shedding virus (which he would not technically have known unless he was having an outbreak at the time of intercourse) he would be more likely to transmit the virus. Both women could be tested for antibodies to determine whether they were infected and if the exposure was recent or not. They should speak to their health care provider to determine the tests needed. I always recommend my patients that are positive for genital herpes use suppression medication, use condoms and inform their potential/prospective partners of their status before intercourse.
