I get it... you've struggled with weight gain and you are now ready to take action... exercise, calorie deficit, macros.. you are on top of all of it...
For how long?
Is your eating plan one that you enjoy and can keep doing.. for life?
If it's too restrictive, too "perfect" and not enjoyable... you can perhaps maintain it for a few weeks, then what?
A better approach is to build sustainable health habits that you can keep practicing... focusing on what to add to your plate- example getting more fiber, focusing on lean protein, enjoying an abundance of vegetables and fruit are great additions.
There is a time and place for a cookie or a piece of cake too. And it does not need to be accompanied by a helping of guilt or "now I've blown it" mentality... which derails you from getting back to a healthy lifestyle.
So, some additional suggestions- be mindful of choices- when, how much and why the indulgence rather than "perfect"...
Focus on additions to your diet.
Find ways to enjoy the process- food should taste good! : )
Exercise is often looked at as a weight loss tool- it isn't a great one to be honest... but it IS a great tool for strength... and for weight maintenance... as well as to live longer, reduce risk for heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, mood disorders and for preventing muscle and bone loss as we age.
Look at exercise as money in the bank for your future, not a way to shrink!
Last, don't forget to prioritize rest- stress management and sleep- both impact your choices as well as your weight loss journey.
Partnering with resources like our practice or a health coach can provide the structure and framework for healthy habits, a growth mindset and help you achieve health from the inside out.
