Non surgical correction for receding gums is difficult. First identity why the guns receded in the first place. Too stiff a toothbrush bristle? Brushing with too much force? Thin layer of bone supporting the gums? Periodontitis? The best way to prevent receding gums is to use en electric toothbrush which has a built in stress gauge which alerts the user when excessive force is being applied. This would be a great topic to discuss with a periodontist. 

Salt water is strictly optional with questionable benefits. I do use an antibiotic rinse on occasion. The real purpose of brushing is to disturb the sticky biofilm attached to the teeth which breeds bacteria. Brushing AND flossing will disrupt this film. However, to remove hardened deposits requires a professional hygienist making periodic visits to the dentist essential. 

Replace it when a dentist says so. Possible reasons to replace it include fractured porcelain, recurrent tooth decay, cement debonded. 

Just go to bed wearing your aligners. They are so thin that you won’t notice them. 

Tooth pain can have a variety of causes. Pressure points can relieve pain but not address the cause. Pain is nature’s way of telling you something is wrong. Only a dentist can eliminate the cause, and if the cause is not eliminated, the problem will become worse and more costly to treat. If you have tooth pain, see a professional immediately and identify the cause. 

I suppose anything is possible, but in 40 years as a dentist, I never once heard of an allergy to toothpaste. 

Gingivitis is caused by bacteria and is an infection. To prevent gingivitis 1) brush daily preferably with a mechanical toothbrush, 2) floss daily, 3) have your teeth and gums cleaned semiannually by a dental hygienist and 4) get regular exams by a dentist. Gingivitis left untreated will lead to periodontitis which is the leading cause for tooth loss. It’s easy to prevent but difficult to cure. 

Swollen gums is usually an early sign of gum disease and gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. Better get your teeth professionally cleaned and start using dental floss. Have a dentist examine your gums to rule out more serious problems like leukemia. 

Working the day after a tooth extraction depends upon the difficulty of the procedure and your overall health. You should have this conversation with your dental surgeon. 

Best way to whiten teeth is by using carbamide peroxide in a custom tray made by a dentist. Home methods can work, but you may not live long enough to notice any results. 

When pregnant, try to avoid dental care in the first trimester, but urgent care poses minimal risk. I always use local anesthetic without epinephrine just to be safer. 

The average composite filling lasts 8.9 years. However if you correct the habits that caused the decay in the first place, they can last much longer.

Hydrogen peroxide is what white blood cells manufacture to kill germs after it has absorbed the germ. So if you could get the hydrogen peroxide directly onto the decay and allow it to sit undisturbed, then it might work. Of course that would be impossible. Best bet with tooth decay is to first identify what you are doing to cause it and then to remove it. Unfortunately no dental material is as good as the original enamel, so try your best to avoid cavities.

The average composite filling lasts 8.9 years. They can last longer if the cause of the original decay is eliminated. The most common cause is too frequent consumption of carbohydrates. Consider upgrading to an inlay. It will cost more but last much longer. 

There isn’t a limit on the number of fillings per visit. Often, patients prefer longer visits because it means fewer. A good question to ask yourself is why you have so many cavities. 

Teeth become loose for a reason and a variety of reasons exist. All teeth have a slight amount of mobility because they are attached to the bone by tiny fibers which can stretch. A dentist can evaluate whether your mobility is normal and if not normal, what is causing the excessive mobility. Remember that an important part of prevention includes regular periodic exams and professional cleanings. You should visit a dentist and have an exam. 

You get a filling. Remember that cavities don’t just happen. There is always a cause. Most cavities come from eating carbohydrates too often. It’s okay to eat carbohydrates, but just not all day long. 

No retainer rule applies to all people. If you don’t wear it for two days and it still fits, you got lucky. If it feels tight, then your teeth moved. 

Yes. It needs to be treated immediately. 

I’m not sure if it will heal itself. My patients were always interested in pain relief and proper treatment can usually provide immediate relief. I’d recommend seeing your surgeon.
