Dr. Tony Skanchy practices Orthodontics in Riverton, UT. Comprehensive orthodontic treatment includes metal wires that are inserted into orthodontic brackets, which can be made from stainless steel or a more aesthetic ceramic material. The wires interact with the brackets to move teeth into desired positions. Being advanced in the field, Dr. Skanchy may also use Invisalign or other aligner trays that have been designed to align a patients? smile. As an orthodontist, Dr. Skanchy must recognize various characteristics of a malocclusion or dentofacial deformity, define the nature of the problem, including the etiology if possible, and design a treatment strategy based on the specific needs and desires of the patient.

How do I know if my child needs braces?
See an orthodontist. Yes, braces can correct overbites, but it may not be the best time to address this bite problem.

Is there a better way to get the perfect smile other than getting braces?
It’s hard to tell what’s going on without seeing you. I’d make an appointment with an orthodontist to go over options. Invisalign may be an option.

My son is on his orthodontic treatment and a part of his tooth is now above his gums. Is it normal?
It’s hard to know without seeing what’s going on. Is the root sticking out of the gums?
Using teeth whitening strips is causing a burning sensation. Is this normal?
Some people are more sensitive than others to bleach. I would not use it if it’s causing discomfort.
My daughter’s middle tooth seems to be out of line from the remaining teeth. Can this be corrected with braces?
Absolutely. Braces do a wonderful job at aligning teeth :)

would be needed to correct. If it is very minimal, your orthodontist may
try to align it with an active retainer, but this is done when very small
movements are needed. I would recommend seeing an orthodontist for an
evaluation and they'll be able to give you better answers for your specific
situation.

Wiring a broken jaw
The oral surgeon that performed the surgery would be the best person to contact as they know the severity of the break and her situation.
