Why Hidden Injuries in Auto Accidents Can Be Life-changing
Screeeech. . . BAM!You were just involved in an auto accident. You shake your head, feel a little sore, you seem OK. . . but are you really? If you go to the Emergency Room,...
Should your back hurt after seeing a chiropractor?
It’s not that your back “should” hurt, but there are several things that can make your back hurt after an adjustment. Most of the time, people just feel much better after an adjustment, but we are working in areas that are irritated and inflamed. We also are changing your spinal structure and muscles are pulling differently. These things can cause soreness or pain, and it is usually relieved by using ice for 10-15 minutes as often as needed.
Good luck as you gain better health through chiropractic!

Are chiropractic adjustments painful?
In general, the answer is, "No," however, since your hip is already hurting, and we are going to have to make some changes in order to help you, it can be tender. Every chiropractor uses different procedures to help their patients, and some are more physical than others. I always tell my patients that the treatment should not be really painful, but if it is to tell me so I can
lighten up, stop, or do something different. Even if they just don't like the specific treatment, I want them to tell me because there are many ways to help people to get better. As far as your age goes, I treat people from newborns to those in their nineties. Treatment is modified for the age and condition of the patient. It is really good that you are going in to get help.

Can a chiropractor break your neck?
Chiropractic is extremely safe. There are more side effects from taking prescription medications than from a chiropractic adjustment. There are many many types of chiropractic adjustments and each doctor uses the techniques they feel work best for them, and the patient's condition. When many people first think "chiropractor", they think of someone "cracking" their neck, and for some people that sounds great, and for others like you, it seems a little scary. If you are concerned, just tell the chiropractic office of your concerns and ask if the doctor can use a gentle, non-physical type of adjustment on your neck. There are many ways to help your neck pain with chiropractic, and you don't have to have your neck "cracked" to stop the pain.

My son has very bad back pain. What can I do?
Yes, make an appointment as soon as possible. Chiropractors treat people from birth to very mature. After an examination, chiropractic is great for relieving pain.

What are the side effects of chiropractic treatment for kids?
You are making a good choice in taking your son to a chiropractor. If you have ever read a warning label, like on milk, cereal, or gasoline, you know that everything that can possibly go wrong has to be told ahead of time. Chiropractic is so incredibly safe, that even in the world of warning labels for everything, we didn't have to have a consent form until pretty recently. To answer your question, though, the most common response to a chiropractic treatment is that the patient feels so much better, and very quickly. The most common "side effect" is that sometimes a patient will be a little sore, as if from exercise. Usually, 10-15 minutes of cold or ice helps relieve the symptoms.

Should I see a chiropractor for chronic back pain?
Make an appointment with your chiropractor as soon as possible and you will wish you had done it 3 months ago! Chiropractic is the number one choice for back pain, because it works. If there are misalignments in your body that are causing structural stress and increased wear and tear, irritation or "pinching" of nerves, and/or joint restriction or malposition, it cannot be fixed by taking medication. There needs to be a structural correction and your chiropractor is your best choice!

Can I get adjusted without an underlying condition?
There are many reasons besides pain, for getting an adjustment, including the desire for improved mobility and postural distortion correction. Despite your lack of an official diagnosis, there are conditions that can cause joint and muscle stiffness and most respond well to chiropractic care. Call your chiropractor today, and start having a better tomorrow!

Is there something wrong with my hip joint?
Sorry about your accident, but many times people will think that they are OK after a car accident, when actually they have injuries that may not show up for a while. Sometimes people brace with their legs, perhaps braking, and the impact goes up the legs into the hip. There can be injuries to neck and back also. You need to be checked by a good chiropractor as soon
as possible and they should be able to help with your hip problem.

There's still pain after cortisone. What should I do?
I'm sorry about your shoulder pain. There are many things that can be done, but first it's important to find out what is wrong. Cortisone injections help stop inflammation, but do not cure anything and they can actually damage the joint.. What is causing your pain? The answer to that determines what is the best treatment. A chiropractic examination can help find out what's wrong, and if you need an X-ray or MRI, they can be ordered. Chiropractors don't just treat the spine. We treat all of the joints, and the muscles. Here are some things you can do until your appointment:
1. Ice
2. Alternating heat and ice
3. Over-the-counter rubs or patches, or CBD products
4. Shoulder exercises (here is a link to some good ones on YouTube: https://youtu.be/A8qOaip6UfQ)

Should I go to a chiropractor for a pinched nerve?
Chiropractors are your number one choice for "pinched" or irritated nerves and misalignments in the spine or other joints. They will need to do an examination to find out what is wrong, and most patients feel relief quickly. The quicker you make an appointment, the quicker you will start feeling better!

Do chiropractors treat chronic neck pain?
You should make an appointment with a chiropractor as soon as possible. After an auto accident, many people are injured more than they realize. If the injured tissues heal incorrectly, it puts extra stress on the joints and other structures, sucking your bodies energy and causing the joints to wear out prematurely. I often see patients with neck pain and when I ask if they ever injured their neck, they say, "No...well, I did have a car accident about 5 years ago, but I was fine." They were not fine, they were injured, but the pain wasn't too bad, or maybe there was no pain...until permanent damage already happened. Chiropractic care helps your body heal correctly with good structure and motion. Unfortunately, the longer you wait, the poorer your final outcome.
Please make an appointment today.

When should I stop chiropractic treatment?
Isn’t chiropractic great? You should talk to your chiropractor and review your goals for starting care. Some doctors and some patients have the goal of pain relief and if you and your doctor agree, then perhaps you are done until the next time it hurts. Other doctors and patients have a structural correction goal, to help change the body structure so that this does not happen again. Structural correction takes longer, but helps stop or slow down degeneration and permanent arthritis. It depends on your goals.

Can sciatica pain extend to my leg?
Yes, it can. The sciatic nerve is one of the biggest nerves in your body and it goes all the way from your back, buttock, and down the back of the leg to your foot. Chiropractic is great for helping people with sciatica, so you should make an appointment as soon as possible.

How can you relieve the pain from a pinched nerve?
Make your appointment now to feel better fast. Chiropractors are great for helping with “pinched nerves.” If a joint or bone is misaligned or is moving improperly, it can irritate or “pinch” the nerves in that area, chiropractors “adjust” the spine or joint to improve mobility and remove the pressure from the nerve. Call your chiropractor today.
You will be glad that you did!

How well does spinal manipulation work for sciatica?
You have come to the right place. Chiropractic is excellent for helping sciatic problems. There are many causes of sciatica. It happens when the sciatic nerve, which is about as big as your thumb and goes from the buttocks to the foot, is irritated or compressed. Misalignment of the spine, pelvis, or hips can be the cause, and Chiropractic is the solution by re-aligning the spine and pelvis, and relieving the pressure or irritation. Exercise or pain meds do not fix the problem. See your local Chiropractor as soon as possible.

What is the difference between an osteopathic physician and chiropractor?
Sorry to hear about your low back pain, but this is a good question. Many years ago, there was not much difference between chiropractors and osteopaths. The main difference was that the osteopathic theory about the cause of back pain was that spinal misalignment interfered with blood flow, causing pain. The chiropractic theory was that spinal misalignment
interfered with nerve impulses, causing pain. Both felt that the solution was to adjust the spine removing the restriction and interference, letting the body heal. Osteopathic adjustments tended to be of large areas.
I have severe whiplash from work. What is the treatment?
I'm sorry you are having this problem. Often, whiplash is under-treated, or not treated at all, as the medical doctors and patient wait for it to get better "by itself." This leads to future problems. Often, the spine will straighten after this injury, and if it heals this way, your body's energy is used to hold you in an abnormal position, instead of letting you have fun and stay healthy. The joints are over-stressed, so they wear out with arthritic spurring, which is permanent. You are making a good choice by seeing a chiropractor. A chiropractor will examine you, and make sure that the injuries heal properly, not just getting rid of pain. There are a variety of techniques to help improve the structure and help the spine heal in the proper position with good mobility. These "adjustments" are usually not painful, and even feel good. Physiotherapy may be used, like massage, traction, ultrasound, or other therapies, and most chiropractors will include rehab exercises to get the best results.
Good luck!

Dr. Steven Moon
Does scoliosis correct itself?
The short answer is no, scoliosis does not correct itself. Sometimes a spinal curvature is called a scoliosis, and where previously the curvature had to be over 35 degrees to qualify, they now say that a lesser curve can be scoliosis also. True scoliosis is genetic and is usually passed from mother to daughter although the father can pass the gene, too. It is more common in girls and tends to get worse when girls start getting their cycles to age 18 or so, and can resume during pregnancies. The good news is that there are many things that can be done to help scoliosis, without surgery!! Chiropractic is excellent at helping with scoliosis with gentle adjustments and exercises to strengthen and support the spine. Braces and casts are sometimes used. There are also clinics that specialize in scoliosis treatment if some of the other treatments are not working as well as expected.

I've been experiencing weird hip pain for 2 days. Could it be due to weight gain?
Being overweight increases a multitude of health hazards including increased pressure and wear and tear on the joints, however, there are many other factors that are more likely than just gaining weight. I find that most hip pain is caused by malrotation or misalignment of the pelvis, which can increase stress to the hips and back, and makes an unstable foundation for the spine. This can cause extra stress on the joints and can make them wear out faster than they should, and can pinch or irritate the nerves going to the hips. Your chiropractor can perform an examination to see if this is why you are experiencing hip pain and can gently correct the misalignments so that you can quickly feel better. Exercises are also very important once the structure has been corrected.
Good luck and have a healthy day!
