Depending on the severity of the gum disease, home care (toothpaste/floss) isn’t enough to treat it. Many patients will need a deep cleaning, that their hygienist can do, with some local anesthesia (novacaine). Hi!
So, with any medical/dental advice like this, it’s hard to answer you exactly without seeing you. However, I can try to answer as best I can. Jaw pain following an extraction could be normal post-op pain if it was a difficult extraction. Wisdom teeth, for example, can be very difficult to extract depending on how impacted they are. If you feel like "something isn’t right," you should definitely follow up with the doc that did the extraction.
