Migraines happen to be the third most common illness globally, with nearly 1 in 8 individuals suffering from it at any given time. Because of this high prevalence, it’s important to identify solutions to the problem. One such solution is chiropractic care. Contrary to popular belief, chiropractors are educated on and lawfully trusted to treat ailments other than those that relate to the back and spine. Of course, spinal adjustments are a large portion of chiropractic care, not to mention back pain is the most common complaint amongst patients.

However, chiropractors also treat the entirety of the musculoskeletal system along with headaches and migraines, digestive problems, immune system problems, anxiety, and a plethora of other health-related conditions. The question that many have, however, is whether or not chiropractic care is effective in treating a condition like migraines or if it’s all just one big sham. As you can likely guess, we lean heavily towards the former, and we have science-backed evidence to prove it.

What the Research Says

While more research certainly needs to be done on migraine headaches and their etiology, it’s presumed by most medical professionals that migraines derive from both a lack of blood flow and impaired nerve signals. How does this relate to chiropractic care? As mentioned in the preface of this article, chiropractors are much more educated on and specialized in general health and wellness than they are exclusively on the spine.

The reason for this is because of the complex connections between biological systems, including but not limited to the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and immune system. Due to such complexity, it’s notable that by solving the problem of one system, a problem of another might be solved as well! After all, the body is a complex machine… From a chiropractic standpoint alone, spinal adjustments have been shown to improve blood flow through the Central Nervous System (CNS). It’s also been shown to impact the way nerve signals are sent to the brain.

Finally, research aside, there is endless anecdotal evidence that supports chiropractic adjustments relieving unrelated symptoms from health issues such as headaches, migraines, digestive issues, stress and anxiety, and more. If that’s not enough to convince you, you might just have to see for yourself!

Do You Suffer From Migraines?

Though it might sound far-reaching, chiropractic treatment for headaches and migraines is more than a viable treatment, it’s a safe one. Contrary to surgical procedures and prescription medications, for example, chiropractic adjustments come with minimal risk and an abundance of potential benefits. Through both an effective spinal adjustment paired with the educated advice of the chiropractor regarding health and wellness tips, migraines can not only be relieved but mostly eliminated.
