Depends on the timing of the test. If you have symptoms of illness, whether Covid or something else, you should avoid seeing grandpa until you are feeling well.

You can take paracetamol/acetaminophen or narcotic/synthetic narcotics. Narcotics can be habit forming but at 78 years of age I do not consider that to be much of risk for you.
