Good Morning,

I do not have a colleague in New Mexico that I can recommend for you. On another note, the well-designed clinical trials that I have read on Ivermectin do not support its use for treatment or prophylaxis against COVID-19. I strongly feel that your best course of action is to get vaccinated. Sorry that I cannot be of more help to you.

Good Morning. Asymptomatic herniated discs are a relatively common finding and as such DO NOT require surgical intervention. Depending on a number of factors such as age, physical demands of your job, body weight and your typical activities of daily living conservative (non-surgical) treatment is generally recommended. The natural history of a disc herniation is disc degeneration which occurs over a period on months to years. We generally recommend core muscle strengthening, maintaining ideal body weight, and avoiding activities that result in heavy use of the spine (repetitive bending, stooping, twisting and heavy lifting).

Good morning,

All forms of alcohol (beer, wine and spirits) are sugar and so consumption of these beverages will drive up your blood sugar. Chronic and excessive use of alcohol can also irritate your pancreas which is the organ that produces insulin. If you do decide to drink adult beverages it would be best to be VERY moderate. One or two drinks at most at one sitting and no more than once or twice weekly. Monitor your blood sugar carefully. Best strategy quite frankly is to just not drink alcohol and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How long should I wear an ankle brace after a fracture?

Good Afternoon,
While this may seem like a simple question without knowing a lot of additional details I can only speak in general terms. There are 2 major bones that make up the ankle joint (tibia and fibular). One or both of these bones can be fractured. Depending on the severity of the facture it could be treated with casting and/or surgery which of course impacts healing time. All of these and many other factors (what ligaments may have been torn) play a role in the amount of time you must wear a brace. For a minor fracture involving the tip of the fibula you might only need a brace for 4-6 weeks. For complex fractures involving both bones and several ligaments bracing may be required for 3-4 months. Pretty much all ankle fractures also require physical therapy for strengthening and flexibility which can also impact the amount of time necessary to wear a brace.

That’s a good question but I don’t have all of the information I need to give you the best possible answer. Anyway, if you had a Prevnar 13 immunization as a child (less than 2 years old typically), you don’t need another one at this point although it’s always best to check with your doctor as there may be extenuating circumstances that I’m not aware of. If you’ve not had the pneumonia shot you should get the Prevnar 13 now. Also, remember to get a flu shot every year.
Hope this helps.

Hello there,
The GoLo diet plan is safe for you and actually designed for folks like yourself who ae insulin resistant or have what is termed “metabolic syndrome”. The “Release” supplement that goes with the diet is not well studied for it’s contribution to the weight loss from the program. I don’t think it would be harmful to you but it might be a waste of money. In any case if you follow the diet carefully it should benefit you. Make sure to monitor your blood sugar carefully as it may begin to go down as you lose weight.

Good Morning,
Seasonal allergies can be very challenging. You are on a good combination of medicines. Sinus drainage can be highly irritating to your stomach. You could consider adding an over the counter nasal spray like Flonase to your current medications. Also make sure to use the best air filters possible in your window AC units and change them all once a month. Finally remember to shower before you go to bed to get the pollen out of your hair. If you don’t the pollen transfers to your pillow case and then you are rubbing your face in pollen all night. Additionally you should launder pillow cases every 2-3 days for the same reason, to reduce nighttime exposure to pollen. If you remain symptomatic you should check back in with your primary care provider for additional evaluation.

Hello,
The good news is that both you and your mom have tested negative so the simple answer would be yes. That said to really answer your question accurately much more information is needed. Where do you live and where does your mom live? Do you have to take public transportation (airplane, train, bus, Uber) to visit her? Do either of you have a chronic medical condition that places you at higher risk? Do you live in an area where there has been a spike in cases? Do you live in a rural, urban or suburban area.? Are either of you “essential workers” and so may have daily exposure to the virus? These are just some of the questions that would need to be addressed before your question could be answered definitively.

If no improvement or worsening get in to see your primary care physician.
