Acupuncture addresses the pain, the root of the pain and also balances the whole body and mind so that you are your best and healthiest for continued wellness. Your sleep, mental clarity and energy will be improved and any issues with other areas also will be addressed. The cost of both treatments is similar but with acupuncture you get the benefit of 3000 years of practice, a physician with a four year post-graduate education, and a whole body and mind balance/treatment. Dry needling does not require any formal education and often provides at most, temporary relief. It seems that dry needling is good for muscle aches and pains from improper exercise and minor sports strains and pulls. It is also worth mentioning that if not done properly, dry needling can be quite painful.

Even children lose their fear after the initial treatment. Keep in mind the patient is always in control and we will discontinue the needling if they are fearful or uncomfortable. In that case, we can finish with cupping to complete the treatment and try again at the next visit.

That being said, I will normally also suggest a good diet and exercise, and may also recommend supplementation, if necessary. My treatment protocol is three treatments and then reassess, with the goal of elimination of pain and increased movement and function. Acupuncture is not going to get rid of arthritis but the combination of my suggestions will reduce inflammation, which reduces pain and allows increased movement, stopping or greatly slowing the progression of the disease.
