Dr. Joel Abbott has been practicing with Rheumatology Associates, P.C. in Birmingham, Alabama since 2005. There, he specializes in the diagnosis, analysis, and treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), lupus, connective tissue diseases, and other inflammatory conditions. Alongside Rheumatology Associates, P.C., Dr. Abbott and his team offer a number of services to their patients, including bone density testing, digital imaging, and many more.
Dr. Abbott earned his medical degree at The University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Birmingham-Southern College, also in Alabama. He then went on to complete his Residency training with Carraway Methodist Medical Center’s Department of Internal Medicine, where he served as Chief Medical Resident from 2002 to 2003. Dr. Abbott then completed Fellowship training with the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine’s Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
To further enhance his own expertise and skills, Dr. Abbott became certified in Rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, which allows him to treat patients in urgent, life-threatening cardiac situations.
Dr. Abbott has been consistently recognized as Best Doctor since 2009, and is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology, American College of Physicians, and the International Association of HealthCare Professionals.
When he isn’t serving his patients, Dr. Abbott enjoys fishing, college football, spending time with his wife, and doing mission work and other church activities.
