Dr. Mohanty grew up in Richmond. He graduated from the Collegiate Schools in 1984. He then earned his BA from the College of William & Mary in 1988.

Dr. Mohanty followed his BA with graduate work at Columbia University prior to matriculating at MCV/VCU School of Dentistry. Upon completion of dental school, Dr. Mohanty completed a two year hospital practice residency at MCV . He served as Chief Resident during his second year. He continues to be a part time faculty member while maintaining this practice since August, 2000.

Dr. Mohanty is an active member of the American Dental Association as well as the Academy of General Dentistry. Other pursuits include travel and golf.

What can I eat or avoid eating to reduce plaque?

You are doing all the right things. I would recommend rinsing your mouth out with water after every thing you eat or drink.

What if only one tooth is crooked?

It may be possible to straighten one tooth with limited orthodontics or a removable spring-type retainer, however that has to be determined by the dentist/orthodontist.

Adult tooth is loose. What should I do?

You must see a dentist as soon as you can as it is difficult to know if the whole tooth is loose or if has fractured. An xray and clinical evaluation are necessary.

Can I whiten my teeth with baking soda alone?

Baking soda can be very abrasive and thus may cause some sensitivity. Hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and water may help to whiten teeth.
