I have found electric toothbrushes to be superior to the old fashioned manual tooth brush. The first goal of brushing your teeth is to clean the teeth which is accomplished well with the electric brush. The second goal is to not cause damage to the teeth or gum tissues. Manual brushing over the years causes shrinking of the gums and grooves in the teeth at the gum line of the teeth causing a very expensive problem commonly requiring crown to restore the severely worn teeth. Those most diligent in brushing with a manual brush over the years will cause severe damage to the teeth by abrading a grove into the tooth causing it to appear as though a beaver had chewed into the tooth.
