A CT (computed tomography) scan is a valuable imaging tool that can provide detailed cross-sectional images of the body, including the liver. It is commonly used to evaluate the liver for various conditions, including liver disease. However, the accuracy of a CT scan in diagnosing liver disease depends on the specific type of liver disease and the information needed.
CT scans are good at detecting structural abnormalities in the liver, such as tumors, cysts, and areas of inflammation or scarring. They can also help identify the size and shape of the liver and detect abnormalities in the blood vessels that supply the liver. However, CT scans may not be as sensitive as other imaging modalities, such as MRI or ultrasound, in detecting certain liver diseases, especially in the early stages.
For best care, you want to ask your physician for the best recommendations.
