Alvi Armani FUE surgeon Dr. Baubac explains why he does all his own FUE harvesting
Undergoing Hair Restoration is a life changing decision. For such an important choice it is important to know who is performing your FUE Hair Restoration procedure.
At many other clinics, even here in the United States, Physician Assistants, Technicians as well as untrained and unlicensed medical personal are doing the FUE Extractions and harvesting for the procedures. Not your hair restoration surgeon.
FUE harvesting is extremely delicate work, and is an absolutely critical component to the quality of your hair restoration outcome. Only a trained doctor or surgeon should be harvesting your grafts.
When considering a hair restoration surgery, it is important to find a qualified surgeon who has proper training, FUE experience and certifications and one who is heavily involved in your procedure and performing your FUE Harvesting.
At Alvi Armani, all FUE harvesting is personally done by Dr. Baubac Hayatdavoudi to ensure the survival of each single graft in order to provide you with the ideal outcome for your procedure.

Why Dr. Baubac does all his own FUE Harvesting
When deciding on a surgeon to perform your FUE hair restoration procedure, it is important that you do your research on the doctor performing the procedure and the quality of his or her results.
It has become increasingly popular for physicians with little or no hair restoration surgery experience to employ teams of unlicensed technicians to perform the majority of surgical tasks including the FUE Harvesting.
At Alvi Armani, Dr. Baubac does all his own FUE harvesting to ensure an accurate harvest of the grafts, a very high regrowth rate and an excellent end result.
The position of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery is that any procedure involving a skin incision for the purpose of tissue removal from the scalp or body, or to prepare the scalp or body to receive tissue, (e.g., incising the FUE graft, excising the donor strip, creating recipient sites) by any means, including robotics, is a surgical procedure.
Such procedures must be performed by a properly trained and licensed physician*.

Consumers face the potential of serious risks when unlicensed personnel perform hair restoration surgery
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) issued a consumer alert with a warning that increasing numbers of unlicensed personnel worldwide are performing substantial medical aspects of hair restoration surgery and, in doing so, are putting patients at risk.
Increasing numbers of patients are now seeking help from physician members of ISHRS, asking them to correct the mistakes of procedures done by those not properly trained to perform hair transplants. The ISHRS warns that patient safety and treatment outcomes are being jeopardized, and encourages consumers to be aware of the following:
- Even minimally invasive hair restoration procedures are, in fact, surgeries requiring medical expertise. Important clinical decisions requiring expert clinical knowledge must be made during procedures. For example, diagnostic decisions are being made and full thickness incisions into the skin are occurring. With respect to follicular unit hair transplantation, hundreds to thousands of tiny incisions are made. This includes hair transplant procedures using strip-FUT (follicular unit transplantation) and FUE (follicular unit extraction) methods of donor harvesting. Appropriate dosing of anesthetic medication is critical to patient safety and patients must be medically monitored.
- Properly trained and licensed physicians (and where allowed by law in the United States, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who practice within the scope of their licenses), should be the only professionals performing certain aspects of hair restoration surgery. This includes:
- Preoperative diagnostic evaluation and consultation
- Surgery planning and surgery execution (including donor hair harvesting, hairline design, and recipient site creation)
- Management of medical issues and possible adverse reactions
- Laws vary by country and by state regarding the specific portions of procedures that can be delegated to unlicensed personnel. ISHRS believes that a licensed provider knowledgeable in the field of hair restoration must perform all surgical incisions or excisions which are part of the procedure. When doctors advertise their credentials and then delegate the surgery to unlicensed personnel, patients are being misled and placed at risk.
- When unlicensed personnel perform highly skilled aspects of hair restoration surgery, patients risk misdiagnosis or performance of unnecessary or ill-advised surgery, as well as failure to have the personnel identify that a hair disorder may be related to underlying systemic diseases which, if not properly diagnosed, can lead to major medical problems.
ALARMING NEW TREND
We are seeing an increasing number of patients seeking help from our physician members, asking them to correct mistakes of individuals who are not properly licensed or trained to perform surgical hair transplantation. If you are considering hair restoration surgery, it is important to find a qualified surgeon who has proper training, experience and certifications.
When performed properly by trained physicians, today’s hair restoration surgery safely and effectively creates natural-looking, permanent results that are virtually undetectable. However, major complications – even life-threatening ones – can occur during surgeries by an unlicensed technician.
FALSE ADVERTISING CLAIMS!
There is no such thing as “scarless surgery” in hair transplantation.
The ISHRS is concerned about false and exaggerated advertising claims related to hair restoration surgery such as “scarless surgery” or the claim that the surgery can be completely performed by a machine. The fact is that any incision whether by machine or hand that enters the skin beyond the most superficial of depths causes a scar to form, and there is currently no machine capable of automatically performing all the aspects of the hair restoration surgery. Available technology can only assist trained surgeons performing hair restoration surgery.
