Cancer in simple and few words
Cancer, in general terms, is used for diseases in which cells divide almost anywhere in the human body, without control, and can invade nearby or distant tissues, destroying them—almost like a vengeful soldier. It can be caused by the exposure to chemicals, radiation, and viruses. But, exactly how it happens is still a mystery. Early recognition of sign and symptoms may alter the course and outcome of the disease.
Please pay attention to the following. Persistence of any warning signs or symptoms (something that lasts for a long period of time, like days, weeks or even longer) is more than just an annoyance. Early symptoms need immediate attention. Some of these symptoms include:
- Unexplained weight loss
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue
- Changes in bowel movements, like diarrhea or constipation
- Prolonged cough
- Enlarged painless mass
- Bloating
- Pelvic, abdominal or back pain
- Headaches, with or without vomiting
While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes, too. Over 100 types of cancers affect humans. Early detection and thorough screening is useful for cervical, colorectal cancer, breast and prostate cancer, etc. Treatment options vary for the different types of cancer and their stages. Surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation are all treatments for cancer, however, any combination of these can help improve a patient's quality of life.
