Functional neurology is a targeted, non-invasive, non-medicated way to treat many neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

When a patient lives with a neurological disorder, his or her brain, spinal cord, nerves, or a combination of any of those are not functioning/communicating in the way that they should. Brain tumors, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s are all considered neurological disorders, among hundreds of others.

Today’s treatment for neurological disorders is typically medication-based, and aims to combat symptoms in order to improve the patient’s quality of life.

Functional neurology also aims to improve quality of life, but in a much different way. Functional neurology is a more holistic, wholesome approach to disease. Instead of treating the symptoms itself, functional neurology treats the root of the symptoms. The physician identifies the patient’s symptoms (for example: eye-twitching, muscle spasms, etc.) and uses them to learn more about the patient’s unique condition. Then, the physician traces those symptoms to the exact location in the nervous system that’s causing these problems. The affected areas will then be given the ideal amount and type of stimulation that will address those issues. Chiropractic care, specific exercises, auditory stimulation, and heat therapy are several different ways that certain areas of the brain can be stimulated.

Functional neurology is unique in that it is entirely non-invasive. Keep in mind it is not a cure, as there are no cures at this time for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, but it is able to transform how the brain works to prevent symptoms from occurring, and it makes the brain healthier in the process.
