Orange County California was the site of the latest mass shooting episode in this country. As of 7:30 pm, 6 people were reported shot, 4 reported dead, including a 9 year old boy. A semiautomatic pistol was used. This morning it was reported that a business relationship gone awry was the cause of the shooting. This of course was not operative in the other recent shootings, the Alabama and Boulder shootings, the Louisiana shooting, the Long Beach shooting, etc. This is occurring in a country where racial and ethnic enmity along with misogyny is on the increase.
We are not alone, countries where strong men rule (autocracy) are seeing and approving such human abuse. But countries where autocracy is not the law of the land are seeing it too, e.g. The U.K, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Spain...The situation in Germany is of particular interest because among the other anti-isms the violent abuse of women stands out. Whether or not that part of Berlin that had been East Berlin is a heavier contributor than West Berlin is probably knowable. Much of the onus of political change seems to be on the women of the USA, with 60% supporting pro-democracy reform. This seems to reflect a worldwide trend; one wonders if on the chessboard representing survival the viruses have identified women as particularly worthy of subversion by their own kind, (smile).
