The latest numbers in the Covid-19 countdown are not good for the USA. There are now at least four million documented infections with an attributable death count of close to two hundred thousand. We are adding at least seventy-five thousand (more likely eighty thousand cases per day and masking and social distancing are widely not being observed after having been politicized by the Trump administration. The daily briefings of press and public are now the sole responsibility of MOM (aka POTUS) who reads and editorializes a prepared statement which ostensibly asks the public to now wear masks in public and to observe safe distancing while proclaiming free speech and assembly along with second amendment gun rights to protect those freedoms.
There is pressure from MOM to return all children to school while he sanctimoniously quotes the American Academy of Pediatrics clearly not understanding or bothering to understand the careful reasoning behind their statement. The public health experts, without Fauci, are now no longer behind the reddish door but are for the most part masked and silent. POTUS is masked and pretends to set an example thereby. He talked inappropriately and often about his acing a cognitive function test which seems to have been taken in 2018 (why?) and the comments and statements from Mary Trump regarding his narcissism and greed are brought to mind. The placement of federal agents in cities with democrat mayors and, or in democrat governor's states is ostensibly to protect federal property within the turmoil created by the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter response to the murders of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and many others.
The briefing has become part of MOM's reelection campaign using law and order, vilifying all protests, and defending the use of federal officers as a private militia. This is causing Tom Ridge, former Governor of Pennsylvania, and the first department of homeland security secretary to call out these tactics as fascistic. It is reasonably clear that this President just wishes to regain office and that the pandemic spread and life loss have little meaning to him just as his clinical psychologist niece and even his sister Maryanne (the former federal judge) have said.
