As a general principle, Cancer diagnoses requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, nutritionists, navigators and multiple additional members of the treating team depending on the disease. It is critical that cases are discussed in a tumor board conference to ensure all elements of the disease are considered. This is standard at essentially every major cancer center. Whether each specialty is ultimately utilized is dependent on the specifics of a case. I would recommend discussing this further with the medical oncology team to determine if there are any surgical considerations that would warrant consultation.
