Kathleen O'donnell
Acupuncturist
Kathleen ODonnell is an acupuncturist practicing in Loveland, OH. Dr. ODonnell evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by getting a patient history and looking at and touching the body. Then, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Dr. ODonnell treats the patients condition. Many of the bodys systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

Acupuncture can help with lung function as well as mucus issues. However, bronchitis is a diagnosis that can be very serious and should be under the care of a doctor. Any decent acupuncturist should refuse to treat you until you have seen a doctor. I figure it probably would have faded out a couple thousand years ago if it was. There are also measurable differences in things like hormones and inflammatory markers in the blood after treatment. A big reason this rumor came about is that research for acupuncture just doesn't fit into the ideal double blind study for medical research because the acupuncturist knows whether or not they are doing acupuncture so they try and use various "sham" acupuncture methods for tests which include things like shallow needle insertion or needling a slightly different point which also has effects greater than seen in placebo as many styles of acupuncture utilize things like shallow needling or needling elsewhere on the channel if a point isn't available (think braces or limited mobility). So when compared to the "sham" acupuncture the results weren't as statistically significant whereas both showed great significance when compared to a control group.
Does acupuncture hurt the next day?
Depending on what you had done, you can be sure the next day, just like a massage can work stuff out as well. Drinking water can reduce the chance of it happening again.

(bruising at the needle site) are so low that it's usually worth a try to see if it does help.
