I would strongly recommend discussing your weight loss options further with your Bariatric surgeon prior to committing to gastric band surgery. That being said, as the gastric band is a laparoscopic procedure, most patients recover very quickly from the actual operation. Most patients will go home from the hospital within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

Also, the way your incision is closed will effect how much scarring you have. Using staples vs stitches on the outside of the skin vs stitches underneath the skin will change the appearance of your scar after you have healed. Typically, I try to minimize scarring as much as possible by placing my sutures underneath the skin.
