Yes, the nail should grow back if the nail matrix was not removed or treated. If the new toenails returns ingrown, then we can perform a Matrixectomy. It involves the same procedure of removing the offending nail border, but at the end we kill the nail root with an acid/base/or cauterization. In this case, the nail in that area should not grow back, but the rest of the nail will continue to grow without an ingrown border.
