Now that we know cataracts are like a cloudy M&M in the eye (see previous post for details), what is cataract surgery? Basically, cataract surgery is where I make a tiny incision in the eye, go in, open the shell of the M&M, clean out the cloudy chocolate center part and then replace that with a new clear lens. This new clear lens is now what helps focus the outside world onto the back of the eye. When talking to neighbors, friends, or family who have had cataract surgery you will likely here about a lot of different options at the time of your procedure. One of the main choices is just how we do the surgery... but with a blade or with a laser! See my next post discussing some of your options!
