People nowadays are more and more interested in natural or less invasive methods to achieve the body shape of their dreams or to augment certain features of the body. Before anything else, you should understand that if you want to have a natural-looking augmentation, there are methods offered by plastic surgery that can be used. But the results are not comparable with the ones achieved when using silicone implants. In other words, patients who want a natural increase in the size of the buttocks can still resort to plastic surgery, but it is unrealistic to expect results similar to the ones delivered by silicone prostheses.

The procedure that can be used to define the shape of the buttocks better and moderately increase the size in a natural manner is lipofilling of the buttocks. The procedure delivers a natural increase in the size of the buttocks without the complications associated with gluteal implants.

In this article, we will discuss how patients can get a natural increase in the buttocks and how efficient the procedure is.

How Does Lipofilling Of The Buttocks Work?

Buttocks that are not proportionate to the rest of the patient’s anatomy can influence how the patient feels about himself and his body image in general. While the rest of the body might be well-contoured, the appearance of the buttocks might be lacking in aesthetics due to multiple causes, ranging from a sedentary lifestyle to genetic predisposition.

Lipofilling of the buttocks can restore the youthful and appealing appearance of the buttocks while making it firmer and more prominent. Moreover, the patient will notice that the whole profile of the body is enhanced and looks more appealing.

Lipofilling of the buttocks is known under different names. Among them are buttock augmentation with fat, fat grafting to the butt, and fat transfer to the buttocks. All these names define the same procedure that consists of a combination of plastic surgery procedures. In other words, this is a 2-in-1 procedure as it starts with liposuction on the donor areas, and the fat transfer is only performed ulterior, after the required amount of fat cells is collected through liposuction.

In many cases, the procedure starts with tumescent liposuction that can be performed on one or multiple areas of the body that present a surplus of fat tissue. The areas that are commonly targeted with liposuction are the abdomen, flanks, back, and thighs. The removal of fat is done with the help of a tiny tube called a cannula connected to a vacuum medical device. The plastic surgeon will move the cannula back and forth and dislodge the fat that is suctioned into the vacuum device and out of the body.

Tumescent liposuction is preferred because it reduces the risk of excessive bleeding considerably after the procedure along with the bruising and swelling. Moreover, you should know that not all types of liposuction can be performed before fat transfer to the buttocks. Different types of liposuction such as laser liposuction can destroy the fat, preventing the fat cells to be used for grafting.

The fat that is collected with liposuction will be stored in a sterile container, but not before going through a complex purification process. The role of the purification process that is done through centrifugation is to remove the fat cells that are not eligible for transfer and also to remove other impurities and blood.

The fat is then reinjected into the buttocks with the help of special syringes. In other words, the marks that are left behind after the procedure are negligible, and the risk of developing an infection after lipofilling of the buttocks is very small.

When the fat is reinjected into the buttocks, the plastic surgeon needs to be very careful and not inject a large quantity in just one place as this can lead to the death of the fat cells transferred or asymmetries occurring after the procedure. Ideally, the plastic surgeon should be well-versed in performing this procedure and should know how to dispose of the fat cells in layers and at different depths to ensure a high survival rate of the fat cells.

Also, you should know that not all the fat cells injected into the buttocks will stay there. In the first two months after the procedure, the body will reabsorb a part of the fat cells transferred, usually no more than 30%. This means that immediately after the surgery, your buttocks will look much bigger than two to three months after the procedure when the results start to be final.

Candidacy For Lipofilling Of The Buttocks

It is only normal to want to get a natural increase in the size of the buttocks and resorting to surgery is a safe and efficient method, but only if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Just like any other plastic surgery procedure, the patient needs to be eligible to undergo it. The first condition that you have to meet to be able to undergo lipofilling of the buttocks is to have enough fat in the body to provide the fat cells to be transferred. This means that this procedure is not suitable for patients who are thin or have a petite frame with no considerable adipose tissue. For these patients, the recommendation is to consider butt implant surgery and maybe just enhance the results of butt implant surgery with additional fat transfer to the butt.

Generally speaking, you are a good candidate for fat transfer if you are in good emotional and health condition, have realistic expectations from the surgery and understand that you need to put efforts during the recovery period to get the best results possible. Lipofilling of the buttocks is a procedure where success doesn’t lie exclusively in the hands of the plastic surgeon but also in the patient’s commitment to follow the post-operative instructions.

The butt lipofilling procedure might be a good option for you if your buttocks are small and flat, if weight loss, aging or other factors have led to the loss of tone in your buttocks, and if your buttocks are disproportionate to the rest of your anatomy.

The Recovery Period After Buttock Lipofilling

During the procedure, the patient will feel no pain, and even if the recovery period is associated with a less intense level of pain compared to other plastic surgeries, this doesn’t mean that the recovery period after fat grafting to the buttocks is a walk in the park. The main priority of the patient during this time is to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks or lying on the back as this can ruin the results.

Sometimes I see patients complaining about how the plastic surgeon did this and that and was not good, and they ended up with asymmetries and unsatisfactory results after butt lipofilling. I almost always ask them if they respected the instruction and not sit or lie on the buttocks after the procedure. In a vast majority of cases, they didn’t do it either because it was difficult or because they considered this to be useless. The reality is that this is essential for the success of your procedure.

Sitting on the buttocks can kill the fat cells that were transferred during the surgery. You need to give them at least three weeks to develop a new blood network that will ensure their survival in the butt. The plastic surgeon will give you all the details about why this instruction is essential to get satisfactory results after the procedure.

Conclusion

The results achieved with the help of the butt lipofilling procedure can be comparable in time with the ones achieved using implants, only that the risks involved are smaller when getting a fat transfer. Keep in mind that fat transfer is the only efficient and safe method that can be used to get a natural increase in the size of the buttocks.

To be eligible to undergo fat grafting to the butt, the patient needs to have underlying adipose tissue on the tummy, flanks, thighs, or back as the first step of the procedure entails the use of liposuction to collect the fat to be injected into the buttocks.

The final results are transparent within three months after the procedure when the bruising and swelling have subsided.
