I have been influential in the births of more than 6000 IVF babies, and with 20 plus years of experience, many of my findings have been incorporated into treatment protocols from around the world.

Thank you for your question. Carpal tunnel syndrome typically causes numbness and tingling pain in the thumb, index finger, and middle finger. Osteoarthritis commonly affects the base of the thumb, which would cause pain with use. Your symptoms sound like osteoarthritis to me. If you have not seen improvement with the thumb brace, you could ask your doctor about an X ray of your hand to assess the severity of arthritis. Topical pain relievers may be effective. In some cases a steroid injection into the joint can help.
