A person's readiness for change, both cognitively and emotionally, is generally the most important marker I have found in guessing at how long it will take for things to be different. There really is not an exact answer of how long this journey may be for you. I would encourage CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) or EMDR as they are both very effective in working with anxiety and the underlying causes of anger. I will say though that the therapeutic relationship is the most important piece so having your son work with someone he trusts or feels comfortable with is key. I hope that is helpful.
