So how does one maintain proper decorum when there’s a chance of being met with hostility? The same courtesy that’s expected in a meeting applies to an online support group. Some expectations are:
- Saving any personal differences for email or IM (if that information is available); likewise for an in-person meeting, any further discussion on a difference of opinion can take place outside of the meeting itself as long as the exchange remains respectful and helpful
- Maintaining civility when expressing any disagreement
- Staying on topic so as not to waste time
