Stimulate the body and the brain with exercise

Stimulate the body and the brain with exercise

This will be nothing new to anyone, but, exercising is good for the body and the brain.  By stimulating the brain, a workout can protect against Alzheimer's.

  • Try to get approximately 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week by going for walks or swimming laps.  Looking for a more challenging workout? Try dance class or take-up a new sport.
  • Strength training does more than pumping up those muscles. Weight resistance training actually helps to maintain brain health.
  • Keep coordinated by doing yoga and tai chi or even using a balance ball.  Because one of the biggest hazards that come from having Alzheimer's is the increased risk of falling, these are great and gentle ways to help increase flexibility and balance.
