The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Provides Resources for the Cystic Fibrosis Community Affected by Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma have recently ravaged the homes of thousands of families, changing some lives for the foreseeable future. While this is horrible for all affected, luckily, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation pulled resources to assist those with cystic fibrosis impacted by the natural disasters. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation understands that families need any resources they can have access to in such stressful times as recovering from natural disaster.

About The Compass Program

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made the Compass Program, which is intended to assist people with cystic fibrosis in common issues such as making sense of financial, insurance, and legal matters. Now, these issues are intensified due to Hurricane Irma.

The case managers that are onboard the Compass program are remaining available to act as a resource to everyone who has been affected by the storm, and they speak both English and Spanish, so they can offer assistance to the highest number of people.

Not only are they assisting those who were impacted by Hurricane Irma, but they continue to aid those who were affected by Hurricane Harvey as well.

Compass reaches even further than cystic fibrosis patients affected by the storms. It is also available to their families and care teams. Compass does not discriminate based on income or insurance status. Compass is always free, one-to-one, and entirely confidential. Compass aims to enable those who need emergency access to medication, medical services, or devices that because inaccessible due to being lost, left behind, or damaged by the storms.

Compass' central goal is to ensure that throughout these trying times, no one has to face the destruction and confusion by themselves. This is true after the storms, but also every day in assisting anyone who has cystic fibrosis navigate through their care and finances.

Compass Case Managers: What do they do?

Every Compass case manager is well-versed in every facet of cystic fibrosis, and are required to have many years of experience with the disease. Not only that, but they are trained to listen to what you are going through and discuss potential options with you in a comprehensive manner. They are also able to suggest certain resources that may be available to you, and help you with the process of getting involved in them. Your case manager will be available from the beginning to conclusion of whatever problem you might be facing. They will make sure you are satisfied with any care or resources you are due to receive.

While now many resources are being devoted to storm relief, the general functions of Compass are comprised of Insurance, Financial, and Legal matters, all of which are important during times of stress.
