How to Properly Care for a Diabetic Foot

Use lotion on the foot itself

  • To keep the skin moisturized, the person may use lotion, but only on the foot itself, never between the toes, as lotion in these spots may cause fungal infections to set in due to excess moisture.
  • The feet must be protected at all times, either by using soft socks while indoors or by using good-fitting shoes when outside. Open-toed footwear must be avoided, as well as going barefoot at home in order to prevent injury.
